Clayton State’s Mutiso set to
compete in NCAA
Division II Men's Cross Country Championships
Laker junior aims to
become Clayton State's first men's All-American in cross country

MORROW,
Ga. – November 20, 2009 – Clayton State's Fidelis Mutiso
approaches this season's NCAA Division II Men's Cross Country
National Championships with the opportunity that no Laker male
runner has ever achieved - All-American status.
Mutiso gets that opportunity on Saturday in Evansville, Ind., in
the 2009 NCAA Division II National Championships. The men's race
begins at 1 p.m., and for Mutiso to earn the elusive
All-American for Clayton State, he will need to finish in the
Top 40 in the field.
Mutiso, a
junior from Nairobi, Kenya, earned All-Region honors this season
for the first time in his Laker career. He’s enjoyed a banner
season in which he’s won the Southern Challenge, placed fourth
at the Peach Belt Conference Championships and seventh at the
recent NCAA Division II Southeast Regionals. He also finished in
the Top Five in two more meets.
Perhaps a key for Mutiso will be his familiarity with the
national championship course. On Sept. 26 in the Pre-Nationals
meet at the same course as he will run on Saturday, Mutiso
finished 12th overall with a time of 26:28.08.
