Clayton State freshman becomes first-ever runner in Peach Belt history to receive honor for three straight weeks

MORROW, Ga. – October 1, 2007 – The Peach Belt Conference released its weekly honor for men’s cross country on Monday, and it was a record-setting moment for Walid Berkhedle. The Clayton State freshman was selected Peach Belt Men’s Runner of the Week for a third straight week, marking the first time ever in Peach Belt history that a runner has accomplished such a milestone.

Berkhedle had another stellar performance on Saturday at the Georgia Collegiate Championships in Macon. He finished second overall in the 8K event in a time of 26:27 minutes, pacing the Lakers to overall championship with 72 points. It was Berkhedle’s best time in an 8K this season and the fastest time by a Peach Belt runner this season in an 8K.

It marks the second time in three minutes this season that the Scarborough, Ont., native has finished in the Top Five overall.

Clayton State runs this Saturday at the Brooks Twilight in Memphis.
