men place third at North Georgia

Lakers’ Kreutzer wins women’s race in 12:14.58 minutes

DAHLONEGA, Ga. --- AUGUST 26, 2006 --- The 2006 cross country season started on Saturday for the Clayton State Laker women’s and men’s squads, and both teams posted solid results at the North Georgia Challenge at Yahoola Park. The Laker women finished second in the women’s race, while the Clayton State men placed third in the men’s race.

Clayton State’s women recorded 61 points, second only to winner Georgia College with 32. Host North Georgia placed third with 69 points, followed by Clark-Atlanta with 119 and Toccoa Falls with 150. In the men’s race, the Lakers recorded 91 points, finishing behind second place Morehouse (49) and winner Georgia College (46). Rounding out the men’s standings was host North Georgia (122), Toccoa Falls (133) and Clark-Atlanta (241).

Individually for Clayton State, Allison Kreutzer started the season off with a bang in the women’s race. The two-time Division II All-American won the event with a time of 12:14.58 minutes, finishing 19 seconds ahead of Laker teammate Angela Cobb (12:33.46). Other Laker finishers included Maria Larsen (14th – 15:01), Katelyn Stache (17th – 15:17.43), Terrica Hamilton (27th – 15:58.90), Elena Bondari (38th – 18:14.40) and Isabelle Ahanotu (40th – 18:31.34).

For the Clayton State men, the Lakers had two runners place in the Top 10. Nelson Lopez finished fourth in a time of 18:17.56, while Chris Ritchie finished ninth with a time of 18:39.82. The rest of the Laker scoring went as follows – Peter Gadja (18th – 19:17.18), Billy Brown (29th – 20:25.12), Travis Morris (31st – 20:47.28) and David Taylor (35th – 21:41.96).

Clayton State returns to action on Sept. 9 as both teams will compete in the PBC Pre-Conference Meet in Columbus.
