SUMTER,
S.C. – September 24-26, 2010 – Bad
weather may have cut short the 2010 USTA/ITA Women’s Tennis
Southeast Regionals over the weekend, but not before the Clayton
State Lakers made a significant impact on the event. As new head
coach Le’Trone Mason made his Laker debut, Clayton State had five
players advance to at least the quarterfinals in singles play and
two doubles teams advance to the semifinals. The event was at the
Palmetto Tennis Center in Sumter, hosted by Francis Marion.

Ga. – June 14, 2010 – Clayton State
Athletic Director Mason Barfield announced on Monday the hiring of LeTrone Mason as the new women’s tennis head coach at Clayton State.
Mason brings to Clayton State 10 years coaching experience at the
collegiate level as both a head coach and an assistant coach,
ranging from the junior college to Division I level. Mason replaces
Tamas Szabados as Laker head coach. Szabados, who paced Clayton
State to the NCAA Division II "Sweet 16" this season, resigned last
month to return to his native Hungary.

Ga. – May 24, 2010 – After pacing the
Clayton State Laker women’s tennis program to one its best four-year
stretches in program history, head coach Tamas Szabados announced on
Monday that he is stepping down from the helm of Clayton State
women’s tennis, Athletic Director Mason Barfield announced. A native
of Salgotarjan, Hungary, Szabados is returning to his home country
to pursue professional opportunities. A nation-wide search for
Szabados’ replacement has begun.

Cercelletti records lone victory in singles
for Lakers, who finish season 18-8 overall
ALTAMONTE
SPRINGS, Fla. – May 12, 2010 – Just
like it did in the regular season, the Clayton State Laker women’s
tennis team gave third-ranked and undefeated BYU-Hawaii all it could
handle on Wednesday in the NCAA Division II "Sweet 16." However, the
Seasiders had too much firepower once again and defeated Clayton
State 5-1 at Sanlando Park. The defeat concludes 10th-ranked Clayton
State’s season at 18-8 overall. The Lakers’ lone victory was in
singles. Sophomore Marie Cercelletti won a straight-set 6-0, 6-2
victory over the Seasiders’ Shawni Porter at No. 4 singles.
