SAVANNAH, Ga. – May 8, 2008 – The Clayton State Laker women’s tennis team made program history and advanced in the 2008 NCAA Division II National Tournament all at the same time on Thursday. Playing in the first round of the NCAA Division II Mid-Atlantic Regional at Armstrong Atlantic, the Lakers recorded a 5-2 victory over Peach Belt Conference rival Augusta State. The victory improves Clayton State to 20-5 overall, marking the first ever 20-win season for Clayton State in women’s tennis. Clayton State now battles Peach Belt Conference rival and second-ranked Armstrong Atlantic in the Regional championship on Friday at 10 a.m. See full story


Clayton State qualifies for NCAA Division II Mid-Atlantic Women’s Tennis Regional
Eighth-ranked Lakers making their first trip to NCAA postseason play since 2005
MORROW, Ga. – May 1, 2008 – The Clayton State Laker women’s tennis team officially received a berth in the 2008 NCAA Division II National Tournament on late Wednesday evening with a spot in the Mid-Atlantic Regionals next week. The Lakers, currently 19-4 overall and ranked eighth in the Division II national Top 25, will be seeded fourth in the Mid-Atlantic Regional and will play in the Armstrong Atlantic-half of the Regional. Clayton State squares off against Peach Belt Conference rival and fifth-seeded Augusta Stat on May 8 at 11 a.m., while second-ranked Armstrong Atlantic battles CIAA champion Virginia State at 9 a.m. on May 8. SAVANNAH, Ga. – April 20, 2008 After dropping a tough semifinal match on Saturday against Francis Marion, the 2008 Peach Belt Conference Women’s Tennis Tournament came to a sour conclusion for the Clayton State Lakers on Sunday as they dropped another tough 5-4 decision against Columbus State in the third-place match. The eighth-ranked Lakers fall to 19-4 on the season, and now await a possible NCAA Division II Regional berth. Columbus State improves to 19-7. See full story

SAVANNAH, Ga. – April 19, 2008 In what was one of the more thrilling matches in recent years in the Peach Belt Conference Women’s Tennis Tournament, the Clayton State Lakers saw their sights on playing in the PBC Tournament championship get derailed on Saturday as the they dropped a tough 5-4 decision against Francis Marion in the tournament semifinals at Armstrong Atlantic. Eighth-ranked Clayton State dropped to 19-3 overall, while ninth-ranked Francis Marion improved to 20-1.
