Clayton State blanks USC Aiken 5-0 in Peach Belt Conference women’s tennis quarterfinals
Eighth-ranked Lakers square off against ninth-ranked Francis Marion in Saturday’s semifinals

SAVANNAH, Ga. – April 18, 2008 The Clayton State Laker women’s tennis team took its first step towards a Peach Belt Conference Tournament championship on Friday with a 5-0 victory over USC Aiken in the quarterfinals of the 2008 Peach Belt Conference Tournament at Armstrong Atlantic.

The victory improves eighth-ranked Clayton State to 19-2 overall. The second-seeded Lakers now square off against third-seeded and ninth-ranked Francis Marion in Saturday’s PBC Tournament semifinals at 12 p.m.

The Lakers swept all three doubles matches and then won two matches in singles to clinch the victory.

In doubles, Anna Redecsi and Julia Chergova recorded an 8-2 victory over USC Aiken’s Kristin Hunter and Brittany Telford at No. 1, while Selma Hidass and Katie White won 8-2 over Mathilde Grenet and Stephanie Humphrey from USC Aiken at No. 2. At No. 3, Allison Evans and Viktoriya Semyrodenko won an 8-1 decision over the Lady Pacer team of Maria Soledad Angel and Marianne Blattes.

In singles, Chergova blanked the Lady Pacers’ Grenet 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2, while Clayton State’s Kristina Jonutyte pulled off a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Telford from USC Aiken at No. 5.
