Ninth-ranked Clayton State routs USC-Aiken 8-1 to remain
undefeated in Peach Belt
Lakers sweep singles
matches to improve to 7-0 overall and 5-0 in PBC

S.C. – March 2, 2008 – The Clayton State Laker
women’s tennis team remained undefeated both overall and in the
Peach Belt Conference on Sunday with an impressive 8-1 victory at
USC-Aiken. The Lakers, ranked ninth in Division II, improve to 7-0
overall and 5-0 in the Peach Belt Conference.
Clayton State dominated the match by sweeping all six singles
matches and two of the three matches in doubles. In singles, Anna
Redecsi, Julia Chergova, Viktoriya Semyrodenk, Katie White, Kristina
Jonutyte and Veronika Jasenovcova each prevailed for the Lakers.
Redecsi knocked off USC-Aiken’s Kristin Hunter 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1,
followed by Chergova with a 6-0, 6-0 shutout over the Lady Pacers’
Mathidle Grenet and Semyrodenk winning a thrilling 7-6, 6-2, 10-3
decision over USC-Aiken’s Marianne Blattes. White prevailed at No. 4
with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over USC-Aiken’s Brittany Telford, while
Jonutyte won a 6-0, 6-3 victory over the Lady Pacers’ Stephanie
Humphrey and Jasenovcova knocked off the Maria Soledad Angel from
USC-Aiken 6-2, 6-0.
In doubles, Chergova and Redecsi won 8-2 over Hunter and Telford
from USC-Aiken, while White and Selma Hidass prevailed at No. 2 with
an 8-4 victory over the Lady Pacers’ Grenet and Soledad Angel.
Clayton State starts its Spring Break swing through Florida on
Monday with a 2 p.m. Division II Top 10 showdown at eighth-ranked
Nova Southeastern.
