Lakers improve to 15-1 overall and 8-1 in Peach Belt Conference entering Sunday showdown at No. 10 Francis Marion

PEMBROKE, N.C. – March 28, 2008 – The Clayton State Laker women’s tennis team made it six straight victories on Saturday with an impressive 9-0 Peach Belt Conference victory at UNC Pembroke. Clayton State, ranked eighth in the nation in Division II, is now 15-1 overall and 8-1 in the Peach Belt Conference heading into Sunday’s showdown at 10th-ranked Francis Marion.

Clayton State swept the six matches in singles, winning each in straight sets and dropping only nine games total. The Lakers also swept the three doubles matches to complete the shutout.

Two Lakers posted shutouts in singles action. Viktoriya Semyrodenk swept UNC Pembroke’s Luciana Pereira 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3, while the Lakers’ Kristina Jonutyte also won 6-0, 6-0 over the Braves’ Victoria Willis at No. 6.

Clayton State and Francis Marion (17-0, 9-0) are set for battle on Sunday morning at 10 a.m. at Francis Marion, weather permitting. It will be a battle for second place in the Peach Belt Conference.
