Peach Belt Conference Women’s Tennis Tournament
Eighth-ranked Lakers set to face USC Aiken/UNC Pembroke on Friday at 4:30 p.m.

MORROW, Ga. – April 16, 2008 – The Clayton State Laker women’s tennis team is riding high entering this weekend’s Peach Belt Conference Tournament, which starts on Friday at Armstrong Atlantic.

Coming off its best regular season in program history, eighth-ranked Clayton State is the tournament’s No. 2 seed after going 8-1 in Peach Belt Conference play. The Lakers won the tiebreak over No. 3 Francis Marion thanks to a higher regional ranking. Clayton State will play in the quarterfinals on Friday at 4:30 p.m. against the winner of the USC Aiken/UNC Pembroke first round match.

Should Clayton State prevail, the Lakers will then square off in the semifinals against either Francis Marion or Augusta State on Saturday at 12 p.m. The Peach Belt Conference Tournament championship match is slated for Sunday at 10 a.m.

Clayton State went 18-2 overall in the regular season, setting the school record for victories in a season. The Lakers are seeking their first ever Peach Belt Conference Tournament championship.
