Lakers’ Redecsi prevails at MCC Collegiate Invitational Championships
Clayton State sophomore All-American warms up for ITA Regional with singles title

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – September 17, 2007 – Clayton State’s Anna Redecsi warmed up for the upcoming ITA Division II Mid-Atlantic Regionals over the weekend with a stunning singles victory at the MCC Collegiate Invitational Championships at Auburn-Montgomery.

Redecsi, a sophomore Division II All-American from Gyongyos, Hungary, swept through to the singles championship with four stunning victories over three nationally-ranked players, including two at the NCAA Division I level.

She opened with a thrilling 6-4, 6-4 victory over Wichita State’s Lenore Lazaroiu, who was the ITA National Division I Rookie of the Year last season. Redecsi followed that with a 6-2, 6-2 victory in the quarterfinals against Candella Castanon from Lindsey Wilson, who was ranked fourth in the final NAIA rankings last season.

In the semifinals, Redecsi pulled off a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Clemson’s Lauianne Henry to advance to the championship against NAIA All-American Tereza Verekova from Auburn-Montgomery. The match went the full three sets as Redecsi prevailed 6-1, 2-6, 7-6 (7-4) against last season’s ITA fifth-ranked NAIA player.

In addition to Redecsi, senior All-American Julia Chergova advanced to the singles consolation finals, where she dropped a 6-2, 6-3 decision to Lazaroiu.

Clayton State will compete in the ITA Division II Mid-Atlantic Regionals this weekend at Armstrong Atlantic.
