Clayton State’s Chergova, Redecsi fall in ITA Division II Doubles Semifinals
Laker duo plays for third place in ITA National Small College Championships on Friday

MOBILE, Ala. – October 11, 2007 – The quest for the ITA (Intercollegiate Tennis Association) Division II National Championship once again eluded the Clayton State women’s doubles team of Julia Chergova and Anna Redecsi on Thursday at the ITA National Small College Championships at the Copeland-Cox Tennis Center.

Seeded No. 1 in the Division II Doubles Bracket, Chergova and Redecsi dropped a 6-2, 6-1 decision against Elwen Li and Maggie Deng from BYU-Hawaii. Last season, the Laker duo advanced to the championship match, falling in a tough 6-4, 6-2 decision to West Florida’s Tammy Kevey and Mandy Septoe.

Chergova and Redesci opened the tournament in impressive fashion, knocking off Helena Van Eysendeyk and Lisa Santoro from California (Penn.). However, the team of Li and Deng, which finished last season ranked second in the nation, had too much firepower for the Clayton State duo.

Chergova and Redecsi will now battle for third place in the ITA Division II Doubles against Alex Schunk and Vici Weltz from Lynn at 3 p.m. EDT.
