Lakers' Chergova, Redecsi aim for the top at
ITA Division II Nationals
Clayton State doubles
team enters national championships as the No. 1 seed
MORROW,
Ga. – October 10, 2007 – The quest for the ITA
(Intercollegiate Tennis
Association) Division II National Championship goes full stage for
the Clayton State women’s doubles team of Julia Chergova and Anna
Redecsi as the Laker duo will be competing in the ITA Division II
National Championships starting on Thursday at the Copeland and Cox
Tennis Center in Mobile, Ala.
Chergova and Redecsi, who won the ITA Division II Mid-Atlantic
Regionals in doubles on Sept. 24 in Savannah for a second straight
season, will be aiming for the top spot after coming up short in the
championship finals last season. The Clayton State duo dropped a
tough 6-4, 6-2 decision to West Florida’s Tammy Kevey and Mandy
Septoe.
However, when the tournament begins tomorrow, Chergova and Redecsi
will be the No. 1-seeded team in women’s doubles. Their first match
is slated at 1 p.m. CDT against Helena Van Eysendeyk and Lisa
Santoro from California (Penn.). Should they prevail, Chergova and
Redecsi will play in the semifinals at 4:30 p.m. The championship is
set for 4:30 p.m. CDT on Friday.
Should Chergova and Redecsi prevail this weekend, it will mark the
first ever national championship in any sport at Clayton State.
