Eighth-ranked Clayton State drops 5-4 thriller against neighboring Division I rival Georgia State
Laker women have six-match winning streak snapped to fall to 15-2 overall

MORROW, Ga. – April 2, 2008 – The eighth-ranked Clayton State Laker women’s tennis team returned to the Clayton County Tennis Center on Wednesday for its first home match in over a week. In turn, the Lakers dropped a 5-4 thriller against neighboring Division I rival Georgia State.

Clayton State had its six-match winning streak snapped, and the Lakers dropped to 15-2 overall on the season.

Clayton State won four of the six matches in singles. Anna Redecsi posted a 7-6, 6-3 victory at No. 1 against the Panthers’ Martina Nitkova, while Viktoriya Semyrodenko won a 6-1, 6-4 decision over Georgia State’s Kiara Powell at No. 3. In addition, Kristina Jonutyte won a thrilling 2-6, 7-6, 10-5 victory over Katerina Gresova from Georgia State at No. 3, and Veronika Jasenovcova won 6-0, 6-3 at No. 6 against the Panthers’ Kiera Strickland.

However, Georgia State swept all three matches in doubles, which proved to be the difference in the match.

Clayton State is back in action on Monday at in-state NAIA power Berry.
