Ninth-ranked Clayton State knocks off 17th-ranked Georgia College 6-3
Lakers win four of six singles matches to improve to 6-0 and 4-0 in Peach Belt Conference

JONESBORO, Ga. March 1, 2008 The Clayton State Laker women’s tennis team made it two straight victories over fellow nationally-ranked Peach Belt Conference rivals on Saturday with a 6-3 victory over 17th-ranked Georgia College at International Park.

The victory keeps ninth-ranked Clayton State undefeated on the 2008 season at 6-0 overall and 4-0 in the Peach Belt Conference.

Clayton State won four of the six matches in singles and two of the three matches in doubles.

In singles, Anna Redesci recorded a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Georgia College’s Celine Martin at No. 1, while Julia Chergova prevailed in a 7-5, 6-2 decision over Marjorie Ceppo from Georgia College at No. 2. Freshman Viktoriya Semyrodenk made it three straight for the Lakers at No. 3 as she knocked off Georgia College’s Diana Danna 6-2, 6-3, and Veronika Jasenovcova was a 6-1, 6-1 winner of Georgia College’s Bertille Lion at No. 6.

In doubles, Chergova and Redecsi won 8-3 over the Lady Bobcat team of Martin and Danna at No. 1, while the Lakers’ Katie White and Selma Hidass won 8-2 over Georgia College’s Ceppo and Sofia Intriago at No. 2.

Clayton State plays Sunday at 10 a.m. at Peach Belt rival USC-Aiken.
