Eighth-ranked Clayton State knocks off 16th-ranked Florida Southern 5-1
Lakers improve to 11-1 overall following weather-shortened victory

MORROW, Ga. – March 15, 2008 The Clayton State Laker women’s tennis team battled both the elements and 16th-ranked Florida Southern on Saturday, but battled though both for a weather-shortened 5-1 victory over the Lady Mocs at the Clayton County Tennis Center.

The victory was the second straight for Clayton State, improving the Lakers to 11-1 on the season.

Clayton State won two of the three matches in doubles and three in singles. The final three singles matches could not be finished due to severe weather in the area.

The highlight was at No. 1 singles pitting two of the Top 20 players in Division II. In that match, Clayton State’s 15
th-ranked Anna Redecsi won a 6-2, 7-6 decision over 11th-ranked Senka Softic from Florida Southern. In addition, Clayton State’s Julia Chergova bested the Lady Mocs’ Karla Stochlova 6-2, 6-2, and the Lakers’ Viktoriya Semyrodenk knocked off Florida Southern’s Ashley Hunferford 6-0, 6-1.

Chergova and Redecsi prevailed at No. 1 doubles for Clayton State, as did Selma Hidass and Elena Bondari at No. 3.
