Eighth-ranked Clayton State holds onto third with 7-2 victory at PBC rival Augusta State
Lakers sweep win fourth straight match, improving to 13-1 overall and 6-1 in Peach Belt

AUGUSTA, Ga. – March 20, 2008 – The Clayton State Laker women’s tennis team returned to Peach Belt Conference action on Thursday with an impressive 7-2 victory at 28th-ranked Augusta State at the Newman Tennis Center.

The victory was the fifth straight for eighth-ranked Clayton State, which improved to 13-1 overall and 6-1 in the Peach Belt. The Lakers held onto third place in the conference behind both Francis Marion and Armstrong Atlantic.

Clayton State won five of the six matches in singles, and two of the three in doubles. At No. 1 singles, 15th-ranked Anna Redecsi from Clayton State was a 6-4, 6-3 winner over 39th-ranked Nathalia Rodrigues from Augusta State. Another exciting match in singles took place at No. 4, where Clayton State’s Katie White won a thrilling 7-5, 4-6, 10-3 decision over Augusta State’s Bianca Machado.

Julia Chergova (No. 2), Viktoriya Semyrodenko (No. 3) and Kristina Jonutyte also garnered victories in singles for the Lakers. Chergova and Redecsi (No. 1) and White and Selma Hidass (No. 2) prevailed in doubles for Clayton State.

Clayton State plays host to Lander in Peach Belt Conference action on Friday at 2 p.m. at Clayton County Tennis Center.
