Milestone! Clayton State sets single-season record for victories in women’s tennis
Eighth-ranked Lakers improve to 18-2 overall with 9-0 shutout over Alabama-Huntsville

MORROW, Ga. – April 13, 2008 – There is now a new standard for Clayton State Laker women’s tennis, thanks to this season’s record-setting Laker squad.

Clayton State breezed to a convincing 9-0 victory over visiting Alabama-Huntsville on Sunday at the Clayton County Tennis Center. The victory was the third straight and ninth in the last 10 matches for the eighth-ranked Lakers, who improved to 18-2 overall. The 18 victories sets a single-season Clayton State record for victories in a season, breaking the old mark of 17 by the 2001 Laker squad that won the Peach Belt Conference championship.

The Lakers swept all six singles matches and the three doubles matches in posting their ninth shutout on the season. Three of those victories came without losing a single game. In singles, Katie White (No. 4) and Kristina Jonutyte (No. 5) both posted 6-0, 6-0 victories, while the Clayton State No. 1 doubles team of Julia Chergova and Anna Redecsi won 8-0 over the Lady Chargers’ Mireia Fernandez and Mar Piernavieja.

Clayton State plays its final Peach Belt Conference regular season match on Monday at ninth-ranked Francis Marion with second place in the PBC on the line.
