Valiant Clayton State effort comes up short at ninth-ranked USC-Upstate
Lakers win two matches in singles, one in doubles to stand 6-4 in Peach Belt Conference

SPARTANBURG, S.C. --- MARCH 29, 2007 --- The Clayton State Laker women’s tennis team saw its three-match winning streak halted on Thursday with a tough 6-3 Peach Belt Conference defeat at ninth-ranked USC-Upstate.

The defeat evens the Lakers’ overall mark at 7-7, and Clayton State is now 6-4 in the Peach Belt.

The Lakers mustered two victories in singles and one in doubles.

Julia Chergova was victorious at No. 2 singles with thrilling 6-4, 4-6, 11-9 victory over the Lady Spartans’ Susana Hernandez, while Zsuzsa Marosfalvi knocked off USC-Upstate’s Maria Herrera in three sets 4-6, 6-1, 10-4. In doubles, Chergova and teammate Anna Redecsi defeated USC-Upstate’s Anna Novo and Vivian Neuenschwander 8-2.

Clayton State plays host to North Georgia on Sunday at Laker Courts.
