Lakers continue to roll, knock off Lander 8-1
Clayton State shows no ill-effects from layoff, set to battle Columbus State on Saturday

GREENWOOD, S.C. --- FEBRUARY 23, 2007 --- A two-week layoff didn’t appear to phase the Clayton State Laker women’s tennis team on Friday as the Lakers remained undefeated on the young season with an 8-1 Peach Belt Conference victory at Lander.

Playing its first match since Feb. 10, Clayton State swept the singles events and won two of three in doubles. Anna Redecsi (No. 1), Julia Chergova (No. 2), Elena Bondari (No. 3), Zsuzsa Marosfalvi (No. 4), Veronika Jasenovcova (No. 5) and Anna Marton (No. 6) each won in straight sets in singles.

In doubles, the No. 2-ranked team in Division II of Redecsi and Chergova won 8-2 at No. 1 against the Lander team of Vuokko Vahatalo and Ani Pajunen, while Marosfalvi and Jasenovcova won an 8-6 decision at No. 2 against the Bearcat team of Ana Luiza Zaia and Nicholi Marsh. Lander’s lone victory was at No. 3 doubles where Fernanda Oliveira and Kristinanne Emmanouil defeated the Clayton State team of Marton and Bondari 8-2.

Clayton State aims to make it three straight victories in Peach Belt play with a 2 p.m. showdown on Saturday at seventh-ranked Columbus State.
