Clayton State ends losing skid with
8-1 victory over Georgia Southwestern
Lakers improve to 4-5 overall and 3-2 in Peach Belt Conference
heading into showdown at Armstrong Atlantic
MORROW,
Ga. – MARCH 11, 2007
– After playing a stretch of six straight matches
against
nationally-ranked opponents, including five straight on the road,
the Clayton State Laker women’s team returned the friendly confines
of Laker Courts on Sunday and back to their winning ways.
Sweeping all six singles matches and two of the three matches in
doubles, the Lakers posted an 8-1 victory over visiting Georgia
Southwestern in Peach Belt Conference action. The victory improves
Clayton State to 4-5 overall and 3-2 in the Peach Belt.
The Lakers won all six singles matches in straight sets, and two
were of the shutout variety. Anna Redecsi blanked the Lady
Hurricanes’ Sarah Harrington 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 singles, while Anna
Marton downed Georgia Southwestern’s Ashley Waters 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5
singles. In addition, the Lakers also won 8-0 shutouts in two of the
three doubles matches – Redecsi and Julia Chergova at No. 1, and
Marton and Maria Larsen at No. 3.
Clayton State has a huge challenge on Monday with a 2 p.m. match at
second-ranked Armstrong Atlantic.

Ga. --- FEBRUARY
28, 2007 --- The Clayton State Laker women’s team got
back on the winning track on Wednesday in a match of national
proportions. The Lakers pulled off a 6-3 victory over Emory, the
top-ranked team in Division III and four-time defending NCAA Division
III national champions.
Clayton
State won five of the six matches in singles, but there was no
shortage of drama in any of them. Three matches went three sets, and
two had tiebreakers. Anna Redesci won a tough three-set decision at
No. 1, defeating Emory’s Richelle Marasigan 6-3, 1-6, 6-0, while
Elena Bondari rallied from a game down at No. 3 to knock off Emory’s
Kirsten Hillock 5-7, 6-4, 10-8.
In addition, Anna Marton outlasted Emory’s Jenny Moscato 7-5, 6-7
(1-7), 11-9 at No. 6. Only Julia Chergova at No. 2 had a two-set
victory for Clayton State as she downed Emory’s Tshema Nash 6-4,
6-2.
The Lakers won only one double match, but it was at No. 1 where
Redecsi and Chergova, the nation’s No. 2-ranked team in Division II,
downed Marasigan and Rogers from Emory 8-5.
Clayton State returns to Peach Belt Conference play with a 2 p.m.
match at Georgia College on Friday.
