Lakers make it two straight with stunning 6-3 victory over 17th-ranked Francis Marion
Clayton State wins second straight Peach Belt match against ranked opponent

MORROW, Ga. – MARCH 24, 2007 – The Clayton State Laker women’s tennis made it two straight victories over Peach Belt Conference ranked opponents with a 6-3 victory over 17th-ranked Francis Marion on Saturday at Laker Courts.

Clayton State evens its overall record at 6-6 with the victory, and the Lakers improve to 5-3 in the Peach Belt.

The Lakers won four of their six matches in singles and two of the three doubles matches to secure the victory.

In singles, Anna Redecsi knocked off the Patriots’ Sarka Vitkova 6-1, 7-5 at No. 1, while Julia Chergova won in straight sets 6-3, 6-3 over Francis Marion’s Kamini Murugaboopathy. At No. 5, Anna Marton bested the Patriots’ Elizabeth Lee 6-1, 6-2, and Maria Larsen won a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Francis Marion’s Sarah Hickman.

Redecsi and Chergova were victorious at No. 1 doubles for the Lakers, defeating Murugaboopathy and Maria Covell from Francis Marion 8-2. At No. 3, Larsen and Marton bested Lee and Magda Jezovicova 8-6

Clayton State concludes its three-match home stand on Sunday, playing host to USC-Aiken at 2 p.m. at Laker Courts.
