Clayton State falls 6-3 at seventh-ranked

Lakers win once in doubles, twice in singles to fall to 2-1 overall and in Peach Belt Conference

COLUMBUS, Ga. – FEBRUARY 24, 2007 The Clayton State Laker women’s tennis team had its first big test of the 2007 season on Saturday at seventh-ranked Columbus State in Peach Belt Conference action. Despite dropping a 6-3 decision to the Lady Cougars, Clayton State left with a lot of hope and optimism about the season based on its performance.

The Lakers won once in doubles and twice in singles.

The lone doubles victory came at No. 1 where the Laker team of Julia Chergova and Anna Redesci, ranked No. 2 in the nation in Division, bested Columbus State’s 12th-ranked team Raluca Moldovan and Roxana Dondera 8-2. In singles’ action, Redesci defeated Moldovan 6-1, 6-4 at No. 1, while Chergova knocked off Columbus State’s Agata Polcyn 6-2, 6-2.

Clayton State is back in action on Wednesday, playing host to neighboring Division III power Emory at 2:30 at Laker Courts.
