Clayton State downs Berry 8-1, finishes undefeated this season at home
Lakers win five of six in singles to improve to 9-7 overall

MORROW, Ga. – APRIL 4, 2007 The Clayton State Laker women’s tennis team closed out the home portion of the 2007 schedule in fine fashion on Wednesday, posting an impressive 8-1 victory over in-state rival Berry at Laker Courts. The victory – the fifth in the last six matches for the Lakers – improves Clayton State to 9-7 overall on the season.

The Lakers also went undefeated at home this season.

Clayton State won five of the six matches in singles and swept the three matches in doubles. Two of the matches (one – singles, one – doubles) were forfeit victories for the Lakers.

Anna Redecsi knocked off Berry’s Kristin Hunter 6-2, 7-6 at No. 1 in singles, while Julia Chergova defeated the Lady Vikings’ Anja Chan 6-2, 6-0 at No. 2. In addition, Zsuzsa Marosfalvi won a 6-1, 6-0 decision over Berry’s Kristen Cobb at No. 4, and Anna Marton knocked off the Lady Vikings’ Rachael Feibelman 6-4, 6-3 at No. 5.

In doubles, Redecsi and Chergova won a thrilling 8-6 decision over Hunter and Feibelman at No. 1, while Marosfalvi and Marton defeated Chan and Kirstin Ruffner 8-4 at No. 2.

Clayton State plays at fourth-ranked Valdosta State on Saturday at 12 p.m.
