Clayton State returns to winning form
with
6-3 victory over 33rd-ranked Augusta State
Lakers improve to 5-6 overall and 4-3 in Peach Belt Conference with
home triumph

Playing its first match in almost two weeks, the Clayton State Laker
women’s tennis team returned to winning form on Friday with a 6-3
thrilling victory over visiting 33rd-ranked Augusta State
at the Laker Courts in Peach Belt Conference action.
The victory improves
Clayton
State
to 5-6 overall and 4-3 in the Peach Belt. It’s the first victory this
season for the Lakers over a Division II nationally-ranked opponent.
The two teams split the six singles matches as Clayton State triumphed
at No. 1, No.2 and No. 5. Anna Redecsi prevailed over the Lady
Jaguars’ Nathalia Rodrigues 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, while Julia
Chergova was a 6-3, 6-1 winner over Augusta State’s Laura Ferreira at
No. 2.
The bottom two matches were perhaps the most exciting as they both
with three sets. At No. 5, Clayton State’s Zsuzsa Marosfalvi knocked off the
Lady Jaguars’ Norma Rovira in a 6-4, 2-6, 6-1 three-set thriller,
while Anna Marton defeated Augusta State's Luiza Pires 6-3, 6-7, 6-2.
In doubles
action, the Lakers won two of the three matches to secure the victory.
Redecsi and Chergova downed Ferreira and Sarah Jegat 8-1 at No. 1, and
Elena Bondari and Veronika Jasenovcova won an 8-6 thriller over the
Augusta State team of Fernanda Chiaparini and Rovira 8-6.
Clayton State plays host to 17th-ranked Francis Marion on
Saturday at 11 a.m. at Laker Courts.
