Second-ranked Armstrong Atlantic turns back 16th-ranked Lakers 5-1
Now 10-10 overall, Clayton State plays in Peach Belt Conference consolation finals on Sunday

AUGUSTA, Ga. --- APRIL 21, 2007 --- Fresh off opening the 2007 Peach Belt Conference Women’s Tennis Tournament with an impressive victory over Georgia College, the Clayton State Lakers had a too much to overcome on Saturday with a 5-1 defeat against second-ranked Armstrong Atlantic at the Newman Tennis Center. The defeat evens 16th-ranked Clayton State is now 10-10 overall.

The Lakers will play either
Columbus State or USC-Upstate on Sunday at 11 a.m. in the third-place match at the Newman Tennis Center.

Clayton State
’s lone victory was in doubles as Zsuzsa Marosfalvi and Anna Marton recorded a thrilling 8-6 victory over Armstrong Atlantic’s Sofia Haggstrom and Gabriella Kovacs. The Lady Pirates, however, won the other two doubles matches and then three matches in singles to wrap up the match.

16th-ranked Clayton State improves to 10-9 overall, advances to PBC Tournament semifinals

AUGUSTA, Ga. – APRIL 20, 2007 – The Clayton State Laker women’s tennis team pulled off a huge first round victory on Friday in the Peach Belt Conference Tournament quarterfinals, knocking off 11th-ranked Georgia College 5-1 at the Newman Tennis Center. The victory pushes 16th-ranked Clayton State to 10-9 overall on the 2007 season.

With the victory, Clayton State now advances to Saturday’s semifinals at 11 a.m. at the Newman Tennis Center. The Lakers will square off against either Armstrong Atlantic or USC-Aiken. This marks the fourth time in program history that Clayton State has advanced to the Peach Belt semifinals.

Clayton State prevailed in two of the three doubles matches and then won three matches in singles to wrap the match up. In doubles, the Lakers’ No. 1 team of Anna Redecsi and Julia Chergova downed Georgia College’s Celine Martin and Marjorie Ceppo 8-2, while Zsuzsa Marosfalvi and Anna Marton won a 9-7 thriller at No. 3 against Georgia College’s Anna Davidsson and Gabby Acuna.

In singles, Clayton State won at No. 1, No. 4 and No. 6. Redecsi knocked off Martin 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1, while Veronika Jasenovcova downed Davidsson 6-2, 6-2 at No. 4. Marton finished off the match at No. 6 with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Acuna.
