Clayton State women come up short in 2-0
defeat at
USC Aiken
Third straight defeat drops Clayton State to 3-9-1 overall and 2-5-1
in Peach Belt Conference

AIKEN,
S.C. – October 17, 2009 – After a period of
resurgence, the Clayton State Laker women’s soccer team is battling
a slump.
On Saturday, the Laker women
dropped its third straight game with a 2-0 defeat at Peach Belt
Conference rival USC Aiken at the Pacer Pit. Clayton State drops to
3-9-1 overall and 2-5-1 in the PBC with the setback. The Lakers have
now two straight to USC Aiken (3-10, 1-7 PBC).
It was a scoreless game until the Pacers finally broke the ice in
the 25th
minute. Jennie Pinerio scored in front of the Laker goal off a crisp
cross from the right wing from Annie Whitely.
The scored remained 1-0 in favor of USC Aiken when the Pacers’ Alie
Brady nailed a 20-yard strike from the right top of the penalty box
in the 58th
minute.
Clayton State goalkeeper Dominique Trappio recorded four saves in
defeat, while Pacer goalkeeper Nicole Westphal recorded three saves.
The Lakers are back in action on Wednesday in Peach Belt Conference
action at Georgia Southwestern. Game time is 1 p.m.
