Clayton State’s Sayon earns PBC Offensive
Player of the Week for women’s soccer
Freshman forward scored five goals for the week, including hat trick
against North Georgia

MORROW,
Ga. – October 6, 2009 – The Peach Belt
Conference released its weekly top players for women’s soccer on
Tuesday, and for the first time this season, the Clayton State
Lakers were included in the honors.
Clayton State’s Cherie Sayon was selected as the Offensive Player of
the Week by the Peach Belt Conference. The freshman forward from
Monrovia, Liberia is the first Laker to earn a weekly PBC honor for
women’s soccer in more than a season.
Sayon sparked the Lakers last week with five goals in two games as
Clayton State snapped a five-game losing skid. She recorded her
first career hat trick on Wednesday as the Lakers won a thrilling
come-from-behind 3-2 victory over North Georgia. Sayon followed that
with two goals on Saturday in Clayton State’s 2-2 overtime deadlock
against UNC Pembroke.
For the season, Sayon is ranked second in the Peach Belt Conference
in both goals scored (12) and points (25), behind Armstrong
Atlantic’s Kristin Burton.
Clayton State plays host to Montevallo in a key PBC showdown on
Wednesday at 5 p.m. at Laker Field.
