Clayton State women end skid with 2-1 triumph
at Georgia Southwestern
Dreasler, Sayon each score goals as Lakers improve to 4-9-1 and
3-5-1 in PBC

AMERICUS,
Ga. – October 21, 2009 – With postseason
aspirations on the line, the Clayton State Laker women’s soccer team
needed a victory at Peach Belt Conference rival Georgia Southwestern
to stay alive.
The Lakers got it on Wednesday
with a 2-1 victory over Georgia Southwestern at Hurricane Field. The
victory ended a three-game losing skid for Clayton State, which
improves to 4-9-1 overall and 3-5-1 in the Peach Belt Conference.
Clayton State clearly dominated play on the offensive end,
out-shooting Georgia Southwestern 17-2 for the game. After playing
even for the first 20 minutes, the Lakers got their first break in
the 27th
minute as Jennifer Dreasler scored on a header off a right cross
from Rebekah Cook.
The Lakers got a little breathing room midway through the second
half. Natalia Valentine took the ball down the right flank and fed
Cherie Sayon for a header and a goal in the 69th
minute. It was the 14th
goal on the season for Sayon, ranked second in the PBC in goals
scored.
Georgia Southwestern (3-11, 0-8 PBC) made a game of it late. In the
82nd
minute, the Lady Hurricanes’ Brittney Hill scored off a right cross
from Jennifer Starvetsky.
Clayton State closes out the regular season a week from Saturday
(Oct. 31) with a PBC showdown at Lander. Game time is 3:30 p.m.
