Flagler rally 2-1

ST.
AUGUSTINE, Fla. – September 26, 2009 –
The Clayton State Laker women’s soccer team appeared headed toward
ending a frustrating losing skid at Peach Belt Conference newcomer
on Saturday. However, the host Saints scored two late goals and
pulled out a 2-1 victory over the Lakers.
The defeat drops Clayton State to 1-6 overall and 0-2 in the PBC.
The Lakers struck first in the opening half behind leading scorer
Cherie Sayon. She drilled home her seventh goal of the season in the
32nd
minute on an unassisted breakaway from midfield. Clayton State
carried that 1-0 lead into halftime.
But Flagler scored the equalizer in the 73rd
minute as Kincaid Schmidt drilled a 45-yard shot off the goal post
and into the net. The Saints took the lead for good in the 80th
minute as Loren Cate scored the go-ahead goal off an assist by
Lindsay Zullo.
Laker goalkeeper Dominique Trappio maintained her PBC lead in saves
by recording 11 for the game. Christie Reuther recorded three saves
for Flagler (5-2-1, 2-0-1 PBC).
