Clayton State’s Sayon selected All-Peach Belt
Conference for women’s soccer
Sophomore forward was Lakers leading scorer this season

MORROW,
Ga. – November 6, 2009 – The Peach Belt
Conference released its 2009 All-Peach Conference for women’s soccer
on Friday, and Clayton State’s Cherie Sayon was selected first team
All-PBC. The All-Conference team was voted on by the Peach Belt
Conference women’s soccer head coaches.
A sophomore forward from
Monrovia, Liberia, Sayon is the only Clayton State player on the
2009 All-PBC team. She joins PBC Player of the Year Kristin Burton,
Columbus State’s Gina Goforth and North Georgia’s Kelsey Martin as
first-team selections at forward.
Sayon gave the Lakers the offensive spark that had been lacking in
the 2008 season. She is currently second in the PBC in scoring with
14 goals and 29 points. She recorded a hat-trick this season in the
Lakers’ dramatic come-from-behind victory over North Georgia. Sayon
also added two goals each against Lees-McRae, Alabama-Huntsville and
UNC Pembroke, and scored a game-winning goal in overtime against
Montevallo.
