Clayton State women come up short in 2-1 defeat at North Georgia
Smith-Dack scores lone goal as Lakers drop to 0-12 overall and 0-5 in Peach Belt Conference

DAHLONEGA, Ga. - October 11, 2008 – The Clayton State Laker women’s soccer team put up a spirited battle on Saturday at Peach Belt Conference rival North Georgia. However, the Lakers came up on the short end of the match-up, dropping a 2-1 decision to the Lady Saints at the North Georgia Soccer Complex.

Clayton State falls to 0-12 overall and 0-5 in the Peach Belt Conference with the defeat.

All of the scoring took place in the second half. North Georgia (6-3-2, 3-1 PBC) drew first blood in the 52nd minute as Lauren Schenk scored off a deflection by Clayton State goalkeeper Whitney Jowers, giving the Lady Saints a 1-0 lead.

It stayed 1-0 until the 75th minute when Clayton State committed a foul inside the penalty box, and Schenk scored on the penalty kick to give North Georgia a 2-0 lead. However, Clayton State struck right back as Teresa Smith-Dack scored off a cross deflection from a direct kick by Laker teammate Jennifer Powell.

However, the Lakers draw the potential equalizer in game’s waning moments.

Jowers recorded seven saves for Clayton State, while her North Georgia counterpart Jessica English recorded five saves. The Lady Saints out-shot Clayton State 20-10.

Clayton State plays host to Lenoir-Rhyne at 4 p.m. on Tuesday at Laker Field.
