Smith-Dack scores late goal as Lakers fall to 0-5 overall

MORROW, Ga. – September 13, 2008 – The struggles continued for the Clayton State Laker women’s soccer team on Saturday as it dropped a 2-1 decision to visiting Lincoln Memorial at Laker Field.

The defeat dropped Clayton State to 0-5 overall on the season.

The Lakers got behind early as the Lady Railsplitters took a 1-0 lead in the 18
th minute thanks to a breakaway goal by Karina Campos off a pass from Leslie Wilson. It stayed 1-0 at halftime and into the second half until the 55th minute when Samantha Meek scored an all-important insurance goal for Lincoln Memorial off a cross from Julianna Childers.

Clayton State tried to make a game of it in the waning moments when Teresa Smith-Dack scored on a header in front of the goal off a pass from Anne Mullen in the 86
th minute. However, the Lady Railsplitters held in the final minutes to preserve the victory.

Clayton State goalkeepers Whitney Jowers and Chelsea Ellis combined for six saves in the defeat.

The Lakers seek their first victory of the season on Wednesday, playing host to Montevallo at 7 p.m. at Laker Field.
