Lakers receive 48 points and one first place vote behind Armstrong Atlantic and Columbus State

MORROW, Ga. – August 16, 2007 – The Peach Belt Conference released its 2007 preseason poll for women’s soccer on Tuesday, and the Clayton State Lakers were picked third in the race for the Peach Belt championship.

Clayton State received 48 points and one first place vote by the Peach Belt head coaches. The league coaches were not allowed to vote for their own teams. The Lakers, who went 10-8 overall last season and finished third in the Peach Belt at 7-2, are picked behind second place Armstrong Atlantic and preseason favorite Columbus State. The Cougars received 62 points and six of the possible eight first place votes.

Georgia College follows Clayton State in fourth place, followed by North Georgia, UNC-Pembroke, USC-Aiken, Lander and Georgia Southwestern.

Clayton State, under the direction of 10th-year head coach Pete Petersen, returns eight starters from last season’s team. The Lakers open the 2007 season on Aug. 24 at home against Alabama-Huntsville.
