Laker women
ranked 21st in this week’s
NSCAA/Adidas Division II Top 25 poll
Clayton State ranked
third in Division II Southeast Region entering Wednesday’s showdown at
Lenoir-Rhyne
MORROW,
Ga. – September 4, 2007 – After starting season from the outside
looking in, the Clayton State Laker women’s soccer vaulted into the
NSCAA/Adidas Division II Top 25 national poll that was released on
Tuesday. The Lakers are ranked 21st
in the nation after a 1-0-1 start to the 2007 season.
It marks the first time that Clayton State has been ranked in the
national Division II Top 25 since the 2005 season. The Lakers were
ranked 19th
in last season’s preseason Division II Top 25. Clayton State opened the
season with a 2-1 victory over Lincoln Memorial on Tuesday, followed by
a 2-2 tie at Newberry on Saturday.
Clayton State supplemented Columbus State as the lone Peach Belt
Conference appearing in this week’s Division II poll. The Cougars, the
defending Peach Belt champions, were ranked 21st
in the Division II preseason Top 25, but early-season defeats against
Tampa and Tusculum dropped Columbus State out of the poll.
In addition to the national poll, Clayton State is also ranked third in
the Division II Southeast Region Top 10 poll. The Lakers trail
fourth-ranked Carson-Newman (4-0) and 14th-ranked
Tusculum (3-2) in the region rankings. Columbus State (2-2) is fourth
and Armstrong Atlantic (1-1) is ranked 10th,
representing the Peach Belt in the poll.
Clayton State returns to action on Wednesday with a 4 p.m. showdown at
Lenoir-Rhyne.
