Laker women blank North Georgia 2-0 for third straight victory
Smith-Dack, Yusuf each score as Clayton State improves to 7-3-1 overall and 3-2 in the Peach Belt

MORROW, Ga. – October 6, 2007 – After hitting a scoring lull a few weeks ago, the Clayton State Laker women’s soccer team is breathing new life both offensively and defensively. Behind another stellar defensive performance and some timely scoring, the Lakers won their third straight game on Saturday with a 2-0 shutout over visiting North Georgia in Peach Belt Conference action at Laker Field.

Clayton State improves to 7-3-1 overall and 3-2 in the Peach Belt. In the Lakers’ seven victories, they have allowed only two goals and recorded five shutouts.

The two teams split shot totals in the first half as each team had six shots. However, Clayton State finally cashed in the 39
th minute as senior forward Olaitan Yusuf raced a loose ball down on the right sideline and found an open Teresa Smith-Dack on a cross for the first Laker goal in the 39th minute.

The Lakers clinged to the 1-0 lead until the 81
st minute when Yasemin Sunbul found a streaking Yusuf down the left side of the penalty box for her 13th
goal of the season. Yusuf raised her Clayton State and Peach Belt career record for goals scored to 76 and points to 171.

Junior goalkeeper Whitney Jowers recorded the shutout for Clayton State with four saves, while her North Georgia counterpart Jessica English recorded five saves. North Georgia falls to 6-5-1 and 0-3-1 in the Peach Belt.

Clayton State is off for this week before traveling to Georgia Southwestern next Saturday (Oct. 13) for a 1 p.m. showdown.
