Clayton State women fall to Georgia College 2-0 in Peach Belt quarterfinals
Lakers end 2007 season with 9-6-1 mark

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – October 30, 2007 The 2007 women’s soccer season came to a disappointing end for the Clayton State Lakers as they dropped a 2-0 decision at Georgia College on Tuesday in the quarterfinals of the Peach Belt Conference Tournament at Bobcat Field.

The Lakers concluded the season on a sour note, dropping three straight games to finish 9-6-1 overall. It marked the end of a career for six Laker seniors, most notably two-time Division II All-American Olaitan Yusuf. She finished as all-time leading scorer for both Clayton State and the Peach Belt Conference with 83 goals and 185 points.

Unlike the regular season game two weeks ago when the two teams combined for nine goals, Georgia College’s defense was the difference this time. The Bobcats limited Clayton State to only two shots for the entire game.

Georgia College, meanwhile, scored both of its goals in the first half. Daria Owen broke the ice with a 25-yard direct kick strike from the middle of the field to left corner of the goal in the 28th minute. Six minutes later, the Bobcats went up 2-0 when Kayla Emerson scored in a crowd off a right cross pass that was deflected by Laker goalkeeper Whitney Jowers.

The combination of Jowers and Kristin Cook combined or one save for Clayton State, while Mary Rob Plunkett recorded a save for Georgia College (13-4).
