Lakers’ Yusuf selected Peach Belt Women’s Soccer Player of the Week
Junior All-American midfielder scores three goals in Clayton State’s two victories

AUGUSTA, Ga. --- OCTOBER 25, 2006 --- The 2006 women’s soccer season has not been an “All-American” one for Olaitan Yusuf. However, the Clayton State midfielder is making the most of it in the last half of the season.

On Monday, Yusuf was selected as the Peach Belt Conference Player of the Week for women’s soccer after two solid performances last week resulting in Laker victories. The two-time Division II All-American becomes the first Clayton State player to receive the conference’s weekly honor for women’s soccer this season.

Yusuf scored three goals in Clayton State’s two games last week. She scored a goal in the Lakers’ thrilling 2-1 victory over USC-Aiken last week, followed by two goals in a 3-0 Clayton State victory over USC-Upstate on Saturday.

Due to injuries, Yusuf missed much of the first half of the season when Clayton State started out 1-6. Since her return, however, Clayton State is now on a six-game winning streak and the Lakers have won eight of their last nine games. During that time, Yusuf has scored five goals with four assists for 14 points.

Clayton State (9-7) starts defense of its Peach Belt Conference Tournament championship on Wednesday, playing host to North Georgia in the quarterfinals at 4 p.m. at Laker Field.
