Laker women suffer another setback 3-1 against Tusculum
Anounga scores lone Clayton State goal as Lakers fall to 1-5

MORROW, Ga. --- SEPTEMBER 16, 2006 --- The frustration of the 2006 women’s soccer season increased for the Clayton State Lakers on Saturday as they dropped a 3-1 decision against 15^th-ranked Tusculum at Laker Field. The defeat was the third straight for Clayton State, which drops to 1-5 overall on the season.

Tusculum jumped out early with two goals in the first half. Courtney Hambel gave the Pioneers a 1-0 lead in the 13^th minute, scoring inside the penalty box off a lob cross pass from Kelly Barron. Two minutes later Tusculum made it 2-0 when Becky Carreiro scored off a corner kick.
 

Clayton State trimmed the margin to one when Antoinette Anounga scored on a header in the 48^th minute off a cross from Nkese Udoh. However, Barron scored the all-important insurance goal for Tusculum in the 72^nd minute off an assist by Theresa Christie.

Laker goalkeeper Lindsay Schmidt recorded five saves in the defeat, while Whitney Wardrop recorded six saves for Tusculum (6-0-1).

Clayton State returns to Peach Belt Conference action on Sept. 24 with a 2 p.m. game at Armstrong Atlantic.
