Clayton State “Stonewalled” in 1-0 defeat against Presbyterian
Lakers’ two-game winning streak snapped

MORROW, Ga. --- OCTOBER 2, 2006 --- Aimng to extend its winning streak to three straight games, the Clayton State Laker women’s soccer team was literally “Stonewalled” on Monday night, dropping a 1-0 decision to visiting Presbyterian at Laker Field.

The defeat drops Clayton State to 3-7 overall, while Presbyterian improves to 4-6.

Throughout the game, the Lakers had trouble trying to penetrate the Blue Hose backline defense. Clayton State stayed on the constant attack, only to have Presbyterian defenders Maggie Carruth, Lindsey Leffler and Laura Davis stifle any scoring attempts. In addition, Blue Hose goalkeeper Erica Sinkuler recorded seven saves in the victory.

The game’s only goal came in the 27th minute when Presbyterian’s Claire Joyce took a clear pass, penetrated midfield and found Lytle Cannon on the left flank. Cannon then launched a 30-yard strike over the outstretched hands of Clayton State goalkeeper Lindsay Schmidt.

Schmidt recorded eight saves in the defeat.

Clayton State returns to Peach Belt Conference play on Wednesday night, hosting Georgia College at 7 p.m. at Laker Field.
