Laker women get season’s first victory with 4-0 triumph at North Georgia

Anounga scores twice as Clayton State wins Peach Belt Conference opener

 

DAHLONEGA, Ga. --- SEPTEMBER 8, 2006 --- Playing its Peach Belt Conference opener on Friday, the Clayton State Laker women’s soccer team put everything together for its first victory of the 2006 season with a 4-0 shutout at North Georgia. The victory improves head coach T.O. Totty’s Lakers to 1-2 overall on the season.

Clayton State took control with three goals in the first half by three different players.

The Lakers took a 1-0 lead in the 19th minute when Jennifer Winslett hammered home a 30-yard shot off a clear by the North Georgia defense. The next two goals came in a two-minute span. Antoinette Anounga scored in the 33rd minute off an assist by Bose Tanimola, followed by Yasemin Sunbol’s goal in the 35th minute off an assist by Winslett.

Clayton State extended the lead in the second half when Anounga again found the net. She scored her second goal of the game in the 80th minute on a breakaway off an assist by Loretta Ashu.

After two rough games to start the season, Clayton State goalkeeper Lindsay Schmidt recorded her first shutout as a Laker with three saves.

Clayton State returns to Laker Field on Sunday for a 5 p.m. showdown against Catawba.
