Defense shines as Laker women blank
Lincoln Memorial 2-0
Bowier, Udoh both score goals as Clayton State evens season mark at 7-7

MORROW, Ga. --- OCTOBER 14, 2006 --- Over the last six games, the Clayton State Laker women’s soccer has rebounded on the season with some stellar defense. It was that stellar defense on Saturday that kept the winning momentum going for the Lakers in a 2-0 shutout over visiting Lincoln Memorial at Laker Field on Homecoming.

The victory was the fourth straight for Clayton State and the sixth in the last seven games. After starting the season off 1-6 overall, the Lakers are now an even 7-7 on the season with two games remaining in the regular season.

Both Clayton State goals occurred in the first half. Senior midfielder Deahdra Bowier scored her first career goal in the ninth minute from the top of the penalty off an assist by Nkese Udoh. In the 30th minute, the duo hooked up again, this time it was Bowier feeding Udoh for a 10-yard scoring shot from the right side of the penalty box.

For the game, the Lakers limited the Lady Railsplitters to only eight shots, including two shots on goal. However, Clayton State goalkeeper Lindsay Schmidt recorded her third straight shutout and her fifth on the season. Schmidt extended her scoreless minutes streak to 350 with the shutout.

Stephanie Kwoka recorded three saves for Lincoln Memorial.

Clayton State plays its final home game of the 2006 season on Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m. against USC-Aiken. It will be Senior Night for the Lakers.
