Two straight! Laker women blank visiting Lander 4-0
Sunbul scores twice as Clayton State improves to 3-6 overall and 2-2 in Peach Belt

MORROW, Ga. --- SEPTEMBER 30, 2006 --- The tide may be turning in the right direction for the Clayton State Laker women’s soccer team.

After snapping a four-game losing streak on Wednesday against Newberry, the Lakers got back on the winning track in the Peach Belt Conference with a 4-0 shutout over visiting Lander on Saturday at Laker Field. The victory was second straight for Clayton State, which improves to 3-6 overall and 2-2 in the Peach Belt.

It was totally one-sided in favor of Clayton State. The Lakers had a whopping 33 shots to only three for Lander. However, a strong showing by Bearcat goalkeeper Rachel Hine kept the game from getting out of hand.

After numerous scoring opportunities, Clayton State grabbed a 1-0 halftime lead when Yasmine Sunbul scored in front of the goal off a cross by Nkese Udoh in 29th minute.

However, Clayton State broke the game open with three second half goals. Antoinette Anounga gave the Lakers a 2-0 lead in the 49th minute with a breakaway goal off an assist by Jennifer Winslett. Sunbul then scored her second goal off a ricochet shot by Olaitan Yusuf in the 65th minute, and Udoh finished the scoring with a penalty kick goal in the 67th minute.

Clayton State goalkeeper Lindsay Schmidt recorded her second shutout of the season with a save, while Hine recorded a whopping 14 saves for Lander.

Clayton State aims to make it three straight victories on Monday night at 7 p.m., playing host to Presbyterian.
