Lakers drop 1-0 heartbreaker against
Armstrong Atlantic in Peach Belt semifinals
Seven-game winning streak snapped as Clayton State ends 2006 season 10-8 overall

COLUMBUS, Ga. --- OCTOBER 28, 2006 --- The opportunity for a second straight Peach Belt Conference championship ended on Saturday for the Clayton State Laker women’s soccer team as it dropped a tough 1-0 decision against Armstrong Atlantic in the 2006 Peach Belt Conference Tournament semifinals at Columbus State.

The defeat snaps a seven-game winning streak for Clayton State, which ends the season at 10-8 overall.

This game was played as close to the vest defensively as it could get. Both team’s defenses dominated throughout as the two teams combined for only eight shots on goal. For a while, it looked as if the game was heading into overtime and possibly penalty kicks to decide it.

However, Armstrong Atlantic (18-3) got the break it needed in the 80th minute when Lyndsi Stricklen scored inside the penalty box off a corner kick by Kristin Burton.

Clayton State goalkeeper Lindsay Schmidt recorded three saves, while her Pirate counterpart Tarra Kohler had four saves.
