Aiming to set a school record for consecutive victories, the Clayton State
Laker women’s basketball team ran into a stalemate in the form of the UNC-Pembroke
Braves on Saturday as Clayton State dropped a 59-51 Peach Belt Conference
stunner at UNC-Pembroke’s English Center.
The defeated
ended a nine-game winning streak for 10th-ranked Clayton State, which
is now 15-2 overall and 5-1 in the Peach Belt. Shantel Ragin paced Clayton State
with 14 points and seven rebounds. See

Wiles scores 15 points as 10th-ranked Lakers improve to
15-1 overall and 5-0 in Peach Belt
COLUMBUS,
Ga. --- JANUARY 17, 2007 ---
Something had to give on Wednesday night in the in-state Peach
Belt Conference women’s basketball showdown between Clayton State
and Columbus State.
Both teams entered the contest tied for first place in the Peach
Belt South Division with identical 4-0 records, and both were
enjoying tremendous winning streaks (eight straight for Clayton
State; nine straight for Columbus State). However, Clayton State
gained the advantage in the division race as the Lakers pulled out a
thrilling 69-61 victory over Columbus State.
The victory was the ninth straight for 10th-ranked
Clayton State, which improves to 15-1 overall and 5-0 in the Peach
Belt.

With every advancement each week in the USA Today/ESPN Division II
Top 25 Coach’s Poll, the Clayton State Laker women’s basketball team
is reaching new heights on the national level. On Tuesday, the
Lakers reached their highest level yet. For the first time in
program history, Clayton State has cracked the Division II National
Top 10 as the Lakers are tied for 10th in this week’s
poll, which was released on Tuesday. Clayton State, which is
currently 14-1 overall and 4-0 in the Peach Belt Conference,
received 350 points this week, advancing four spots to stand tied
with Stonehill for 10th.

Ga. — JANUARY 13, 2007 —
A balanced offense and another superb suffocating defense was
the perfect mix for the Clayton State Laker women’s basketball team
on Saturday as it rolled past visiting Lander 86-70 in Peach Belt
Conference action at the Athletics and Fitness Center. The victory
was the eighth straight for 14th-ranked Clayton State, which is now
14-1 overall and a perfect 4-0 in the Peach Belt Conference. The
eight straight victories are the third most consecutive victories
for the Lakers in their program history. Clayton State spread the
wealth offensively as five players reached double-figures in
scoring. However, senior wing Sharon Wiles was the catalyst in this
game. Wiles scored a season-high 22 points on an impressive
10-for-12 shooting from the field, dished out six assists and had
six steals to keep her amongst the nation’s leaders in that
category.
