Woodard inks with Clayton State women’s basketball
Well-rounded All-State small forward begins
what should be a stellar recruiting class for
Lakers

Ga. – April 16, 2008 –
As he has grown more familiar with
girls prep basketball in the state of Georgia,
Clayton State women’s basketball head coach
Dennis Cox has begun to make in-roads in landing
some of the state’s top prospects. It started
last spring when Cox signed standout combo guard
Brittany Hall from Campbell High School in
Smyrna. On Wednesday, Cox landed one of the top
prospects in northwest Georgia with the signing
of small forward Tanisha Woodard from Rome High
School. Woodard is the first signee for what
could be a stellar recruiting class for Clayton
State in the 2008-09 season.

USA Today/ESPN Division II Top 25 Coaches’ Poll
Lakers finish
nationally-ranked in women’s basketball for second straight season
 MORROW,
Ga. – April 1, 2008 – For the second straight year, the Clayton
State Laker women’s basketball team is concluding the season
nationally-ranked in Division II. After finishing an all-time high of
fourth in the nation in last season’s final Division II Top 25 poll,
Clayton State finished the 2007-08 season ranked 24th
in the final USA Today/ESPN Division II Top 25 Coaches’ Poll. The Lakers
received 118 points in the final poll, which was released on Tuesday by
the WBCA (Women’s Basketball Coaches’ Association).

82-72 to Wingate in South Atlantic Regional championship

 FLORENCE,
S.C. – March 17, 2008
– One game stood in the way of the Clayton State Laker
women’s basketball team and a possible return trip to Kearney, Neb., and
the NCAA Division II "Elite Eight." However, a late rally by
Wingate proved to be the difference on Monday as Clayton State fell 82-72
in the Division II South Atlantic Regional championship game at Francis
Marion’s Smith Center. The defeat ends the Lakers’ season at 20-11,
but it marked the second straight season that Clayton State advanced to at
least the "Sweet 16" of the NCAA Division II National
Tournament. Marie St. Fort paced Clayton State with 23 points. See

advance to South Atlantic Region championship against Wingate

S.C. – March 15, 2008 –
The Clayton State Laker women’s basketball team is one game away from
a return to Kearney. Spearheaded by 26 points by senior forward Shantel
Ragin, Clayton State returned to the NCAA Division II South Atlantic
Regional championship game for a second straight season as the Lakers
outlasted Peach Belt Conference rival Lander 82-73 at Francis Marion’s
Smith Center on Saturday. Clayton State, which improves to 20-10 overall,
will battle Wingate on Monday night at 7 p.m. at the Smith Center for the
region championship and a berth in the NCAA Division II "Elite
Eight" in Kearney, Neb. See
