Clayton State women open 2009-10 season with
much-anticipated exhibition at Georgia
Lakers face Lady Dogs for the first time in program history
MORROW, Ga. – November 6, 2009Two years ago, the Clayton State Laker men’s basketball team received the opportunity of a lifetime in getting to play Georgia in a preseason exhibition game to open the season. This Sunday, it is the Clayton State Laker women’s basketball team turn to make the trek up to Athens. Fresh off advancing to the NCAA Division II "Elite Eight" for the second time in the last three seasons, Clayton State will open the 2009-10 season at Southeastern Conference elite power Georgia. Clayton State ranked 13th in USA Today/ESPN Division II Top 25 Coach’s Preseason Poll for women’s basketball

Third straight season Lakers have been preseason nationally-ranked in official Top 25
2009-10 USA Today/ESPN Division II Coach's Preseason Top 25
MORROW, Ga. – November 4, 2009 With its first preseason game just days away, the Clayton State Laker women’s basketball team received some more good early season news on Tuesday. For the third straight year, the Lakers are preseason nationally-ranked in the official Division II Top 25 Coach’s Poll. The USA Today/ESPN Division II Top 25 Coach’s Preseason Poll was released on Wednesday, and Clayton State checks in ranked 13
th in the preseason poll. This is the second-highest ranking for the Lakers in the Division II Coach’s Top 25. Last season, Clayton State was ranked 23rd, while the Lakers were ranked seventh in 2007-08. See full story
 



Clayton State’s Stevens selected Preseason All-PBC for women’s basketball
Senior guard one of two starters back from last season’s NCAA Division II "Elite Eight" squad
MORROW, Ga. – November 2, 2009 – The Peach Belt Conference released its Preseason All-PBC team for women’s basketball, and Clayton State’s Lesheria Stevens was voted onto the team by the PBC women’s basketball head coaches. Stevens, a 5-foot-7 senior guard from Chattahoochee, Fla., is one of six players selected to the Preseason All-PBC team. She joins the Lander duo of Shannon McKeever and Ciara Lyons, All-American Phoebe Smith from Columbus State, Francis Marion’s Shannon Singleton-Bates and USC Aiken’s Kendra Chandler. Clayton State picked first in Peach Belt Conference women’s basketball preseason poll
Lakers open up with preseason exhibition at Georgia on Nov. 8
MORROW, Ga. – October 29, 2009 The Peach Belt Conference released its 2009-10 Peach Belt Conference preseason poll for women’s basketball on Tuesday, and the Clayton State Lakers were picked as the preseason favorite in the poll voted on by the PBC head women’s coaches. This is the third time in the last four years that Clayton State has been selected as the PBC preseason favorite. Head coach Dennis Cox’s Lakers received seven out of 12 possible first-place votes and 137 total points to place first, just ahead of defending PBC regular season champion Francis Marion.
