Ga. – February 6, 2010 – With first place on the line in the
Peach Belt Conference’s West Division, the Clayton State Laker
women’s basketball team left nothing to chance on Saturday at in-state
rival Georgia College. Spearheaded by a stellar defensive performance,
Clayton State took over the lead in the West with a convincing 70-35 rout
over Georgia College at the Centennial Center. The victory was the sixth
straight for 15th-ranked
Clayton State, now 18-3 overall and 9-2 in the Peach Belt Conference. It
also avenged a 73-60 Georgia College victory at the Athletics and Fitness
Center last month. Latonda Bruce paced the Lakers with 19 points. See

Ga. – February 3, 2010 – Playing its first road game in
nearly a month, the Clayton State Laker women’s basketball team
needed to scratch and claw its way for every chance on Wednesday
night at in-state rival Georgia Southwestern. However, the Lakers
played stellar defense in the first half and then fended off a
fierce second-half rally by Georgia Southwestern to escape with a
56-54 victory at the Student Success Center. The victory improves 15th-ranked
Clayton State to 17-3 overall and 8-2 in the Peach Belt Conference.
In addition, it’s also the 300th
victory in the history of Clayton State women’s basketball, now in
its 19th-season.

USA Today/ESPN Division II Top 25 Coaches’ Poll

Division II Top 25 Coaches' Poll (Feb. 2)
 MORROW, Ga. – February 2, 2010 – For the second straight
week, the Clayton State Laker women’s basketball team advanced in
the USA Today/ESPN Division II Top 25 Coaches’ Poll. The new poll,
which was released on Tuesday, has Clayton State tied with Peach
Belt Conference rival Francis Marion for 15th in the nation.
Clayton State, which advanced three spots from 18th to 15th, earned
253 points in the new poll with Francis Marion. The Lakers and
Patriots are two of three Peach Belt Conference teams ranked in this
week’s poll. Lander advanced one position from 11th to 10th.
In addition, Georgia College received votes.

Concluding its five-game Peach Belt Conference home-stand on
Saturday, the Clayton State Laker women’s basketball team continued
to roll with an impressive 94-60 rout over visiting Flagler at the
Athletics and Fitness Center. The victory was the fourth straight
for 18th-ranked
Clayton State, now 16-3 overall and 7-2 in the Peach Belt. The
Lakers move a half-game ahead of Georgia College for first place in
the Peach Belt Conference West Division. Senior forward LaDe’Sha
Stoudemire continued her recent strong play again, pacing Clayton
State with 18 points on a perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line.
