Pritchett, Hardeman each score 15 points as Lakers improve to 9-1 and 3-0 in Peach Belt

MORROW, Ga.January 5, 2009 The Clayton State Laker women’s basketball team’s dominance of in-state rival Georgia College continued on Monday as Clayton State pulled away with an impressive 78-60 victory over the visiting Bobcats in Peach Belt Conference action at the Athletics and Fitness Center.

Clayton State improved to 9-1 overall and 3-0 in the Peach Belt with its ninth straight victory. In addition, the Lakers have now won seven straight games against Georgia College and Clayton State is 11-1 against the Bobcats under head coach Dennis Cox.

The Lakers had been without senior forward Shanrika Hardeman, who was back from a four-game suspension. She came back in big fashion, recording a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds.

Hardeman scored 13 of her points in the first half when Clayton State had its defensive troubles against a good-shooting Bobcat team. Led by point guard Shandrea Moore, Georgia College led by as many as four points as Moore scored 13 first half points, mostly on dribble penetration.

Dominique Huffman gave the Bobcats a 32-28 with a baseline jumper with 6:49 remaining. However, Clayton State finished the half on a 16-4 run.

Lesheria Stevens tied the game with a lay-up at the 4:02 mark. She followed that with another lay-up and two free throws, and then a lay-up by Nikkisha Pritchett with 58 seconds remaining gave the Lakers a 44-36 at halftime.

Georgia College stayed within striking distance for the first eight minutes of the second half. The Bobcats cut the Laker lead to six points, 53-47 on a jumper in the lane by Candice Clark. However, Clayton State broke the game open after that, using an 18-4 run to put it away.

Pritchett responded with a 3-point basket, followed by a jump shot by Hardeman at the 10:36 mark. Another Pritchett 3-pointer off a Georgia College turnover gave the Lakers a 64-49 lead with 8:30 remaining.

Marie St. Fort followed with a 3-point basket and a lay-up, and then a driving lay-up off another turnover by Pritchett gave Clayton State a 71-51 lead with 6:17 remaining.

In addition to Hardeman, Pritchett scored 15 points off the bench for the Lakers on a perfect 3-for-3 from 3-point range. Stevens, Dominique Jennings and Lisa Jackson each scored 10 points for Clayton State, who shot 76 percent (16-for-21) from the free throw line.

Moore had a game-high 20 points on 7-for-10 shooting from the field for Georgia College (5-4, 0-2 PBC), while Tiauna Brantley scored 11 points and Antoinette Reames recorded a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Huffman scored 10 points off the bench for the Bobcats.
