Cox adds Yates for 2007-08 Clayton State women’s basketball recruiting class
Junior wing comes to Lakers from Tallahassee Community College

MORROW, Ga. – August 31, 2007 – With the start of practice almost two months away, Clayton State women’s basketball head coach Dennis Cox made a late addition recently to his 2007-08 Laker recruiting class with the signing of combo guard Tierra Yates.

Yates, a 5-foot-7 junior from Pensacola, Fla., comes to Clayton State after a two-year junior college career at Tallahassee Community College. She continues what is becoming a strong pipeline of players to Clayton State from Tallahassee Community College. Recent former Lakers Sharon Wiles and Tracey Browne were teammates at Tallahassee, and Yates joins forward Lisa Jackson from Tallahassee in this season’s recruiting class.

Yates’ addition brings the Laker recruiting class this season to eight players

"We were very pleased to be able to get a player of Tierra’s caliber so late in the summer," said Cox, who is 79-19 in three seasons at Clayton State. "She is a good fit for us. She is very athletic, has great shooting range, and is very sound on the defensive end. It is a bonus, as well, that she is extremely gifted academically."

Yates lettered two seasons under head coach Teresa Atkinson, averaging six points and one rebound a game in 29 games with 11 starts this past season. More importantly, she shot 75 percent from the free throw line and 44 percent from 3-point range in leading Tallahassee to a 23-8 mark.

As a freshman, Yates averaged four points and one rebound a game in 27 games, shooting 36 percent from the field. She prepped at Pensacola High School for head coach Allison Davis.
