All-Peach Belt Conference for women’s basketball
Laker senior forward a reigning All-PBC player from banner 2006-07 season

MORROW, Ga. - October 24, 2007 – The Peach Belt Conference released its preason All-Conference team for women’s basketball on Wednesday, and Clayton State’s Shantel Ragin was amongst the six players selected to the preseason squad.

A senior forward from Pembroke Pines, Fla., Ragin is joined on the team by Lander’s Tiara Good and Stephanie Ponds, North Georgia’s Megan Huffman and Syretha Marble and Armstrong Atlantic’s Kaneetha Gordon.

Ragin was an All-Peach Belt Conference selection in the Lakers’ banner 2006-07 season, averaging 10 points and six rebounds a game, while shooting 42 percent from the field and recording 93 steals. Despite her lack of size (5-foot-10), Ragin set a Clayton State single-season record for defensive rebounds with 175.

Ragin reached double-figures in scoring in 18 games, scoring a career-high 21 points against Elizabeth City State in the Heritage Bank Holiday Classic. She seemed to play her best in postseason, as Ragin was selected both Peach Belt Conference Tournament Most Valuable Player and NCAA Division II South Regional Most Valuable Player in pacing Clayton State to a 29-6 mark and the "Final Four" of the NCAA Division II National Tournament.

Clayton State opens the 2007-08 season with a home exhibition game against Southern Polytechnic State on Nov. 10. The Lakers play their regular season opener against Lincoln Memorial in the Eagle Club Classic at Carson-Newman on Nov. 16.
