5-3 Lakers return to action with Heritage Bank Holiday Classic on Dec. 29-30

MORROW, Ga. – Dec. 18, 2007 — This week’s USA Today ESPN Division II Top 25 Coaches’ Poll for women’s basketball was released on Tuesday, and the Clayton State Lakers slipped six spots this week in the Top 25. After being ranked 11th in last week’s poll, Clayton State is ranked 17th in the latest poll.

Still, it marks the 17
th straight week that Clayton State has been ranked in the Division II Top 25 poll, dating back to the first regular season poll last season. The Lakers are currently 5-3 overall after falling 79-67 at 10th-ranked and defending NCAA Division II National Champion Southern Connecticut State on Sunday.

Clayton State is one of two teams from the Peach Belt Conference ranked this week in the Top 25. USC-Aiken is ranked 22
nd
, down one spot from 21st last week. In addition, Lander, North Georgia, Columbus State and Armstrong Atlantic each received votes this week.

Clayton State is off for the holiday season. The Lakers return to action for the Heritage Bank Holiday Classic on Dec. 29-30 at the Athletics and Fitness Center. Clayton State plays host to Lenoir-Rhyne on Dec. 29, followed by Fayetteville State on Dec. 30.
