Clayton State women ranked 21st in latest USA Today ESPN Division II Top 25 Coaches’ Poll
Lakers return to Peach Belt Conference action at rival Augusta State on Saturday

MORROW, Ga. – Jan. 2, 2008 — The latest USA Today ESPN Division II Top 25 Coaches’ Poll for women’s basketball was released on Tuesday, and the Clayton State Lakers are ranked 21st in this week’s Top 25. Clayton State slipped four spots from 17th in the previous poll, which was released prior to the holidays.

The Lakers dropped in the poll despite winning convincingly twice over the weekend against two quality opponents in the Heritage Bank Holiday Classic at the Athletics and Fitness Center. Clayton State knocked off Lenoir-Rhyne 81-66 on Saturday, followed by a 79-64 thumping over Fayetteville State on Sunday.

The sweep improved head coach Dennis Cox’s Lakers to 7-3 overall on the season.

All three defeats this season have come against Top 25 opponents – second-ranked Delta State, 10
th-ranked and defending Division II National Champion Southern Connecticut State and 20th
-ranked and Peach Belt Conference rival USC-Aiken.

Clayton State returns to Peach Belt Conference action on Saturday with a 5:30 p.m. showdown at rival Augusta State.
