Laker women drop five spots to 15th in USA Today/ESPN Division II Top 25 Coach’s Poll
15-2 Clayton State gears up for Peach Belt Conference South Division showdown at Armstrong Atlantic

MORROW, Ga. --- JANUARY 23, 2007 --- After three weeks of moving up in the USA Today/ESPN Division II Top 25 Coach’s Poll, the Clayton State Laker women’s basketball took a step back this week.

The USA Today/ESPN Division II Top 25 Coach’s Poll for women’s basketball was released on Tuesday, and the Clayton State Lakers dropped five spots from 10th to 15th in this week’s poll. The Laker women (15-2, 5-1 Peach Belt Conference) received 297 points for the current ranking heading into Wednesday night’s Peach Belt South Division showdown at Armstrong Atlantic.

Clayton State had spent the last three weeks moving up in the poll, starting at 20th and getting as high as tied for 10th in last week’s poll. However, Saturday’s 59-51 defeat at UNC-Pembroke halted the Lakers’ momentum in the national poll. Still, Clayton State remains the lone Peach Belt team that is nationally-ranked.

Clayton State’s showdown at Armstrong Atlantic (10-7, 4-2) is set for 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the AASU Sports Complex.
